Living with Bats: Austin's Bat Colony

Austin has bats! And lots of them! Every summer a colony of nearly 1.5 million Mexican Freetail bats come to roost under the Congress Avenue bridge over Town Lake. It is the largest known urban bat colony in the world. The bats migrate between Austin and Mexico. Click here to find out more about these fascinating creatures. They're a real benefit to the community, too! They eat 15 tons of insects every night. And, they're a major tourist attraction!
