Saving Dolphins
They
are one of the world's most loved marine mammals. Though they
seem cute and lovable, they are dying away every year. About
50,00 are killed every year from oil spills, boating accidents
and what they call " drift nets". The dolphin is said
to mesmerize all of a group watching it. Ancient times Legends
also say that in ancient times the dolphin once walked on land.
The
Kids Organization Against the Extinction of Dolphins (KOAED)
in the United Kingdom works with kids from ages 11-18, fighting
against the extinction of this very loved marine mamal. They
have held community meetings and have made it illegal in that
one part of the U.K. to even have a drift net. Wishing the United
States was like that, children in diffrent states have organized
groups as well.
Given
how popular this mammal is, is unbeliveable isn't it? Some of
us have seen "Flipper", or Zeus and Roxanne,
but that should not be the only reason we are trying to help
these mammals from becoming instinct. The faster all of us pitch
in, The longer these wonderful animals will stay with us for
the generations to come.

How
My Neighbors and I Made a Difference
Hi,
my name is Radhika. I am 11 years old and I live in India. Right
now in my lane there are 19 puppies. Three dogs have just laid
litters of puppies. They are all very cute, though some of them
are very scared of my friends and me. I'd like to tell a story
about this guy most of the people on the street have seen driving
very rashly around the street. This guy just got his new bike.
You know the excitment when you get a new vehicle don't you?
Well, this boy felt that same excitment.
According
to the residents of the street he has alsocome very close to
running over some of the puppies many times, but thankfully
nothing has happened. Some of the adults who were very much
concerned about the safety of the puppies (and some of us kids
too), got together and caught hold of him. He is quite young,
about 22, and was trying to act cool. The adults threatened
him, telling him that he could be arrested if he ran over a
puppy, and that also the CUPA or the Dog Concerned Centres would
take serious actions on him. He apologized and left. Nobody
has seen him ever since. Must have been caught somewhere else
for running over a puppy!!!
