The Ultimate Dance Brainstormer

From start to finish, this list will help you picture what happens from the moment your party-goers arrive to the minute they leave. Brainstorm the following questions with the girls who are helping you throw the party or the girls on your dance-party committee:

  1. What does the entrance to the dance look like with decorations?

  2. Where is the ticket table? How is it decorated?

  3. Where is the stage? How is it decorated?

  4. Where are the refreshments set up?

  5. What kind of food and drink is there? Who pays for it?

  6. How is it served?

  7. On what kind of dishes? In what glasses?

  8. Who will buy the food?

  9. How much can we afford to pay?

  10. Can we cut costs by making food ourselves?

  11. How can organize a potluck?

  12. Where is the extra food stored? The ice?

  13. Who will cleanup?

  14. Where are the trash cans? Mops? Brooms? Paper towels?

  15. Where is the band?

  16. Where are the chairs or benches to sit down? How many do you need?

  17. Are there steps up to the stage?

  18. Where is the dance area?

  19. Is there special lighting on the dancers? What kind?

  20. Where are the lights run from?

  21. What kinds of decorations are around the hall? Balloons? Streamers? Lights? Fog? Murals? Hay bales?

  22. Where are the bathrooms?

  23. Where are the emergency exits?

  24. Is there a photo area?

  25. How is the photo area decorated?

  26. Will we charge for photos?

  27. Where is the table to buy photos?

  28. Will we have contests? A dance contest?

  29. Will we have group activities? Choose a King or Queen?

  30. What kind of activities? How can we get everyone involved?

  31. What kind of rules does the school have about decorations and activities?

  32. What kind of music? What arrangements do you need to make to get musicians, sound equipment, etc?

  33. Is there a budget for food, music, hall and decorations?

  34. How much do think you'll need?

  35. Will you have to raise your own funds through ticket sales?

  36. Where will partygoers be able to get their tickets?

  37. How many partygoers will come? Minimum? Maximum?

  38. How much can/should you charge to raise additional funds?

  39. What kind of publicity do we need?

  40. What kind of publicity can we get? School newspaper? A table with flyers at lunch? Banners and posters and flyers? An appearance at an assembly? Ambassadors visiting homerooms?

  41. Are there any safety considerations to think about? What will you do about gatecrashers? Is this a problem at your school?

  42. What can you do to make sure "special needs" kids have a good time? Do you have any handicapped attendees to consider? Would one kid be willing to volunteer on the committee to make sure a fun time is planned for everyone?
