The Ultimate Dance Brainstormer
From start to finish, this list will help you picture what
happens from the moment your party-goers arrive to the minute they leave. Brainstorm
the following questions with the girls who are helping you throw the party or
the girls on your dance-party committee:
- What does the entrance to the dance look like with decorations?
- Where is the ticket table? How is it decorated?
- Where is the stage? How is it decorated?
- Where are the refreshments set up?
- What kind of food and drink is there? Who pays for it?
- How is it served?
- On what kind of dishes? In what glasses?
- Who will buy the food?
- How much can we afford to pay?
- Can we cut costs by making food ourselves?
- How can organize a potluck?
- Where is the extra food stored? The ice?
- Who will cleanup?
- Where are the trash cans? Mops? Brooms? Paper towels?
- Where is the band?
- Where are the chairs or benches to sit down? How many do
you need?
- Are there steps up to the stage?
- Where is the dance area?
- Is there special lighting on the dancers? What kind?
- Where are the lights run from?
- What kinds of decorations are around the hall? Balloons?
Streamers? Lights? Fog? Murals? Hay bales?
- Where are the bathrooms?
- Where are the emergency exits?
- Is there a photo area?
- How is the photo area decorated?
- Will we charge for photos?
- Where is the table to buy photos?
- Will we have contests? A dance contest?
- Will we have group activities? Choose a King or Queen?
- What kind of activities? How can we get everyone involved?
- What kind of rules does the school have about decorations
and activities?
- What kind of music? What arrangements do you need to make
to get musicians, sound equipment, etc?
- Is there a budget for food, music, hall and decorations?
- How much do think you'll need?
- Will you have to raise your own funds through ticket sales?
- Where will partygoers be able to get their tickets?
- How many partygoers will come? Minimum? Maximum?
- How much can/should you charge to raise additional funds?
- What kind of publicity do we need?
- What kind of publicity can we get? School newspaper? A
table with flyers at lunch? Banners and posters and flyers? An appearance
at an assembly? Ambassadors visiting homerooms?
- Are there any safety considerations to think about? What
will you do about gatecrashers? Is this a problem at your school?
- What can you do to make sure "special needs" kids have
a good time? Do you have any handicapped attendees to consider? Would one
kid be willing to volunteer on the committee to make sure a fun time is planned
for everyone?
