Y'know...
you don't have to be rich to have a good time with your dad. Here
are some tested tips for Father's Day fun.
Take a Hike!
If you and dad are outdoorsy types... strap on your backpack and
hit the trail. It doesn't have to be anything major, almost anywhere
you are there's probably some nearby hiking destination. That doesn't
float your boat? Maybe just a walk around the block... or to the
7-11 to treat Dad to a Slurpee! Where you go doesn't matter so much
as spending time together!
Go Gonzo with Games
Does your dad get cheered by checkers... or does he wish for fish?
Whether it's a board game, a card game, or maybe even role playing,
gaming dads will be tickled if you play along. We don't mean when
he's gaming "with the guys" but a special time for him and the family.
So dust off that Monopoly box, shake those Yahtze dice, and shuffle
that Uno deck. It's game time!

More Ideas: Have a Backyard Picnic
Going on a picnic doesn't have to be a production. Get a checked
table cloth or even a big beach towel. Spread it out in your backyard.
Make some PB sandwiches and lemonade (or whatever your dad likes)--instant
picnic!
Star Gaze
The Leo you're lookin' for here isn't an actor... it's a constellation!
Go
outside with Dad on a clear night and take a look at the heavens.
Do you know where the Big Dipper is? How about the Southern Cross?
(You'll have to live somewhere like Australia to see that one!) If
you've got a telescope, or even binoculars, great! Sometimes, city
lights are too bright to let you see much. But a short drive out of
town can be a special treat when you stop to watch the skies!
Get Cookin'!
This one's win-win all around. If Dad's a great cook, he can show
you how. If you're the family chef, ask him to lend a hand on a new
recipe. If your both newbies in the kitchen, experiment together!
Something easy like brownies or a sugar cookie recipe. If you don't
do sweets (??!!??) you can fix a super special salad together. Then
you get to have more fun. When you're finished with this project,
you eat it!!
The Sportin' Life
Don't let the guys have all the fun of playing catch with Dad. If
you're a baseball or softball fan, break out an extra glove and ask
your pop to warm you up. Shoot some hoop together. Soccer fans can
kick the ball around. (World Cup fever hit you yet?) Whatever your
sport, it's more fun with Dad. You'll get some practice, some exercise,
and maybe even pick up a trick or two from the Dadster!
Work on the Family Album
If your family is like most of ours, you've got a box or drawer
somewhere full of pictures. Set some time aside to put them into
an album with your Dad. You'll get to relive some great moments
together looking at the pictures. Expanding the album into a real
scrapbook with ticket stubs, matchbook covers, etc. can make it
even more fun!
Think about it. You can probably come up with a few more ideas
of your own! Just try to have some fun -- and get a little real
Dad time!!
