Spooky, Glowing Pumpkins

What You'll Need:

Don't feel like carving? You'll Need:

How To Do It:

Painted Pumpkins:

  1. Mark scary faces on your pumpkins with the black marker.

  2. Take your scissors and cut the reflective tape to cover the eyes and mouth of your pumpkin.

  3. (Alternate step) Take your reflective paint and paint over the marker faces you have drawn. Your pumpkin will glow in the dark!

Carved Pumpkins:

  1. Take your black marker and draw scary faces, or funny faces on the pumpkins before you carve them up. This gives you a guide to follow and will save you a lot of time later.

  2. Slant your knife as you cut through the top of your pumpkin or cut out the eyes or mouth. This will make your pumpkin even spookier. And you won't have to worry about the top falling through the pumpkin when the pumpkin starts to age.

  3. Be sure you scoop out lots of pumpkin. The thinner the shell, the brighter the pumpkin will be when you light it from inside.

  4. Set a piece of foil or a jar lid in the bottom of your hollowed out pumpkin. Set a votive candle on the foil, or use a mini-flashlight or green luminescent stick. Light the candle or activate the luminescent stick and your pumpkin will glow.

  5. If your pumpkin top does fall through, or a piece of pumpkin breaks off, you can hold the top or broken piece with toothpicks.

  6. To store your carved creations, bring them into the cool garage during the day. Loosely cover with a towel or plastic wrap.
