Bravest Moms on the Web:
The 2008 Royal Court
Last
year, a couple days before Halloween,
my grandpa passed away in the hospital. In the months leading up to his
death, my mom had traveled across the long distance that separated us
from him by plane and by car. The trips were difficult physically and
emotionally. It was hard for her to see him in such bad a state, and it
was also hard to travel those long hours. Nonetheless, she had been there
for him as his health declined, loving him and caring for him whenever
possible. Beyond that, she encouraged my brothers and sisters and I to
talk about how we felt about what was happening to him, and in all the
pain that she felt, she still managed to comfort us and the rest of our
relatives. In spite of all her heartache, she was braver than I could
have imagined and acted as the glue that held my family together as we
mourned the loss of an amazing person. I will always admire her for it.

My
dad has been in a wheelchair
for three years, now, after he got hit by a car in January, 2005. Ever
since then, my mom has been the one driving us most places, and taking
care of my two sisters and I. She has been through a lot, but she keeps
going, and being the bravest, best, superior mother ever! – Brooke,

I
think my mom is the bravest mom
in the universe because... Last year me and my family went on vacation
to Costa Rica. On the third day we were there, we were informed by my
grandpa that we were going on a zip-line tour. (A zip-line tour is a tour
of the rain forest from a tall height and you zip from point to point
at high speeds on a suspended wire.) My mom was scared to death about
this, never mind that it was one of the largest zip-line tours in the
world (That scared her even more!). She almost did not go. But finally
she said, "That’s it! I am going no matter how frightened I
am!" So there we were, standing there in a row while the tour guide
was talking. It sounded extreme with all the safety precautions. So now
my mom was even more scared than ever... and so was I. When we got there
my mom offered to go first and she went! After seeing her go and screaming
I just had to go! They hooked me up to the line and it was so fun! That
is why my mom is the bravest mom in the universe! – Kimberly,
