Bravest Mom on the Web - 2008

Christina's Mom!

Mom!There is no doubt that my mom is the bravest mom on the internet and even the world. My mom has lived through death AND back. Sickness AND health. She's had nothing but strength and courage and she lived through this challenging time for not only her, but for everyone who loves her- her friends, her family, even our dog wasn't the same.

My mom has always had a hernia, but it didn't effect her in any way. One very different visit to the doctor's changed our thoughts. During checkups, MRI's, pet scans, etc., doctors found a big tumor slowly making its way over to her pancreas. They said she should have it removed. So, when they did the surgery on the hernia, they just took out the tumor. Every girl needs her mother but I tried to stay strong for my dad, whose mother was ALSO in the hospital being treated for cancer, a stroke, high blood pressure, low blood sugar, etc. My mom was recovering quickly, (thank goodness) and well.

A couple months after the surgery, my mom and dad went back to see the tumor they took out, blood tests, etc. My grandmother was STILL in the hospital at this time, which didn't make anything better. When my mom and dad returned home, they said that everything was normal and everything was gone! They also mentioned that my mother had pancreatic cancer. Yes, that BIG not-fatal tumor turned out to be cancer and my mom beat it! My mom is the bravest mom because she could have easily given up, but she didn't - SHE FOUGHT CANCER! She did because she knew it wasn't her time yet. She is the bravest mom because she stayed strong through the toughest time of her life, not only for her, but for all of us. We were recently watching a story on the internet for pancreatic cancer, how you get it, and if you survive. A very famous doctor mentioned that 95% of all people who have pancreatic cancer don't survive and that they are very rare. – Christina, 12, New Jersey

The bravest moms on the web are our Girl's World Moms. Our moms work hard to keep up with us. They hold broken families together and keep warring siblings apart. They fight to make our dreams come true. They take risks, rescue animals, face angry bosses and save kids in trouble. Every girl who wrote us about her mom knows how brave she is every day.

It was hard to pick just a few stories to share from thousands of entries. Everyone who wrote in deserves to be a winner. From the Girl's World Crew to the moms of the world, we hope your see yourselves in these stories. Happy Mother's Day! -- from the AGW crew!
