The
Coolest Moms:
The Royal Court for 2008
My
mom is a freelance writer
for some girl's magazines. She has just published her own book about
being an 'autograph collector' that has been her hobby since she was
a kid. Being an autograph collector is a rare hobby here in my country.
So, she's kind of 'weird' for some people who don't know about that
kind of hobby. My mom doesn't care. She's a person who will do whatever
her heart tells her to do, as long as it is positive. She also helps
my school as a volunteer in our school magazine. In fact, this is the
first time for my school to have a school magazine and my mom is the
pioneer! She never gives up although being a pioneer of something is
sometimes confusing and tiring. My mom is very concerned about environment
and teaches us how to make our Earth greener. My mom creates kid’s
gatherings with my classmates and we will go on an outing to learn about
environmental education. And my mom is the one who plans for it!! I
love my mom so much. – Patricia, 8, Indonesia
My
Mum’s name is Katrina and
she’s the coolest because she’s nice and up to date with
the fashion crazes! I can trust her when I talk to her about my problems,
and I let her buy my WHOLE wardrobe! Now you have to admit not many
girls would trust their Mum to buy cool clothes. I think my mum should
be the coolest mum because she ROCKS and she is nice. She never puts
herself first. For example, if she’s going shopping, she will
spend all her money on us and never buy herself anything! - Melissa,

On
my mom's last birthday,
my family and I tried really hard to make it a special one because of
how much she does for all of us all year long. My grandpa, her dad,
had passed away a few months prior to her birthday, and she missed him
a lot. I thought I'd make it special by baking a cake, using a recipe
that he sent us before he died. It went all wrong and I burnt an oven
mitt in my attempt. But, when my mom found out, she hugged me and desperately
tried to salvage as much of the cake as possible. Using an icing packet
from a box of brownie mix, she iced what was left of the cake and tried
to make me feel better about it. She told me how good it tasted. Whenever
I said how deformed it was, she responded with positive comments on
how delicious it looked. It was one of the few times that I tried to
do something nice for my mom to repay her and even then, she was the
one who saved the day. I'll always be grateful for her for that and
for all the other awesome stuff she's done for me. If not for the other
stuff, I think that alone makes her the coolest mom ever. – Lee,
