Coolest Mom on the Web - 2008

Rachel's Mom!

My mom is super cool. No matter what happens she always listens to what I have to say and forgives me if I did something wrong. We spend a lot of fun times together and sometimes I feel like we're more like best friends than anything else. Like recently, my mom had to work in New Jersey. I had never gone on business trips with her before, but she said if I wanted to I could come. I knew I had to be really mature, and I tried my hardest. We had a lot of fun going to dinners and I even sat in at some of the meetings, which were surprisingly interesting. But one morning I had a problem. My mom was at a meeting and I had to go down to the restaurant to get breakfast. She told me how to do it, but I couldn't figure it out. I couldn't even find the restaurant! I went back to the room and called her, but she was a little frustrated. She said she couldn't come because she was in a meeting. I didn't want to interrupt her, so I said OK and hung up. Then I started to cry. I was sure I would never go on another business trip again, and I was hungry! I guess my mom could tell I was upset, just from my last "OK" on the phone. Only a few minutes later she rushed into the room. Her facial expression was tense and hurried, but she spoke softly. She told me to get my stuff and she would take me down to the restaurant. I went as fast as I could, but it wasn't all that quick. But for someone missing an important meeting, my mom was extremely patient. She took me down to the restaurant and showed me exactly what to do. But after eating I was still upset. I thought my mom was mad at me. But that night we went into New York City and she didn't seem mad at all. She paid the high price for me to skate at Rockefeller Center and didn't care when I was done shortly after beginning. We were flying back to California when she asked, "Would you like to do it again?" I was surprised. "I thought I didn't behave well enough?" My mom looked confused. "You mean about breakfast? But we had so much fun the rest of the time! I'm sorry I was in meetings so much. I wish I could have spent more time with you. Sorry." It was then that I realized two things. The first was that my mom and I both felt guilty about things the other considered minor and not important. We both want to please the other very much. The second was that my mom doesn't mind if I have trouble with a few things. The good times are what's important to her, the same as it is for me. Maybe that's why we have so many. Maybe that's why besides just being mother and daughter, we are also the best of friends. – Rachel, 12, California

The secret's out! Girl's World moms are totally cool. They hang with us, not just around us. They look out for us, not through us. They show the real meaning of "mom" every day, in every way. From the ton of entries we got, we're sure of one thing -- every girl in the club has a really cool mom. We wanted every mom to win! The AGW Crew has a message for the cool moms of the world. Your spirit's here, in every story. Happy Mother's Day from the Girl's World Crew.
