Bravest Moms on the Web:
The 2009 Royal Court

One of the bravest things that my mom has ever done was deciding to teach my siblings and I at home rather than sending us to school. I call it brave, because I have a lot of siblings (compared to the average); and starting out, my mom was just as ignorant about the process as anyone. There is so much work involved, especially when several are in diapers and others learning long-division. You can’t even imagine the chaos and resulting stress...but if you try, it’s pretty scary. On top of that, there were many months when my mom was left completely on her own, because my dad was in the military at this time and sometimes sent on training missions. We also lived states away from our relatives, so she relied primarily on herself for everything. If I had been in my mom’s position, I would have very likely lost my mind. And, honestly, I don’t think that I would have dared try to educate all my sibs and I at home. She must have done something right though, because she’s seen two off to college already. But, Mom, you’re a gutsy woman. – Leigh, 14, USA

My mom is the bravest in the world because: My brother was diagnosed with autism when he was young. Mom and dad were really upset but they knew that they needed to help him. They did everything that they could and my mom worked very hard with him. She didn't spoil him and kept firm rules. One night, my brother woke up in the middle of the night and couldn't breathe. My mom and dad took him to the hospital. It turns out that he has food allergies. He's allergic to food coloring and dairy. It was hard for my mom to hear but she dealt with it and knew that they could get through it. Because of my mom and dad's work my brother is 9 and fully recovered from autism. A stranger would never know that he had autism. I think that my mom deserves the title of bravest mom because in my mind she is. – Lucy, 11, Massachusetts (PenPal #13742)

My mom is the bravest mom in the world because right now even though she is older now and can forget about college she has decided to go back to college and graduate to become a nurse. I think that is the best thing a person could ever do. Spending every day studying but she still has time to take care of me. She is doing all this to give back to others. I hope one day I can be like her and give back to others like she does. My mom is the bravest mom in the world. - Kelly, 11, USA (PenPal #15482)
