Dealing With a Copy Cat!

The Problem...

Dear Study Smart: I have a best friend. To tell you the truth, I'm starting not to like her because I don't know who she really is. You see, she ALWAYS copies me. So it's really hard to know what she likes or does when I'm not around. She's good to talk to, but I don't know if she is telling the truth.

I think your girlfriend is trying to say "I like your style. You're really cool!" So, it's a compliment to be copied. But maybe your friend is also saying, "I don't know what I like or what looks right." So, go shopping together. Check out magazines. Talk about what clothes say about people. Help her get stylin' her way. Not your way. Good luck!

Your friend may be playing follow the leader (you!) because that's the only way she knows how to act. Take a step back. Ask her what she thinks. Let her pick movies to rent or things to do. Maybe she'll get out of the cookie cutter mold. Let her know you'd like her to find new ways to be and do that'll be fun for both of you. Peace!

At my school, the Vixens all dress the same and act the same and think the same. Know what's worse? They like it. And everyone says they're so cool. It would drive me nuts to look and act only one way. Talk to your friend. She's totally unique. So are you. Make a list of what you both like. Write down what you dislike. What's important to you? What do you believe in? Find out how you're both different and the same. Writing helps me sort things out. Maybe it will help you too. Later...
