Hi!!! My name is Michelle, and I'd like to tell you about how I'm involved in water monitoring for my local watershed, and what monitoring is all about.
I started monitoring Cabin Run, back in the Fall. The first time my mother and I went, we had a kind of training session, for we went with an experienced volunteer group, who taught us what to do and how to do it.
We now test the water on the third Saturday or Sunday of the month. We walk a mile to get to it, and we must cross a mildly large creek on a rope bridge in order the reach Cabin Run, which runs into the XXXX Creek.
It is a really cool experience to walk across a rope bridge, but the cables get really cold in the winter, and make your hands and fingers numb. We test our stream for various things to determine the stream's recent quality.
Cabin Run is considered an exceptional value stream. I once sat over the water, perched on an over-hanging tree. It was magnificent. I could see small waves, caused by a small waterfall in front of me that made white water. All around me was the strong, sturdy tree, and the streams xtremely clear water. It was all so wonderful!!
I can't wait to return to that wondrous environment. As you can see, I really enjoy being a volunteer water monitor, and I hope you take part in helping keep water habitats healthy for its wildlife also!
