A December to Remember

The following article was submitted by Tiffany B., 10, Ontario, Canada for Beat Street.

Title: Ideas On What To Get For Christmas! Are you broke and wanna get something really special for your mom or dad for Christmas? Here's some ideas:

Dad: Books:Icons of the 20th Century: 200 men and women who have made a difference, by Barbara Cady. This book is big, beautiful and a little pricey, $60, but hey, Dad coughed up for soccer camp all those years. Each icon-Fred Astaire, Muhammad Ali, Marylin Monroe, and more-is aptly wild and vividly depicted.

Videos and DVDs : This year it's the Year of the Series - everyone's favorite TV shows are out on DVD. So find out what Dad's favorite old show is and get him Season 1!

CDs: Mannheim Steamroller, the ultimate Christmas music group, has a boxed set of their greatest CD's, and is always a favorite at this time of year.

Mom: Videos and DVDs : Gone With the Wind, starring Clark Gable, and Vivien Leigh. Even if no inflamed lovers have swept mom of her feet lately, you can still make her feel better like the belle of the ball. Scarlett and Rhett have gotten a makeover in this restored print, so they're more Technicolorful than ever!

Book: Simplify Your Christmas, by Elaine St. James, fifteen dollars. We know, you mom REALLY likes preparing holiday dinners she ENJOYS pulling all nighters wrapping gifts. And yet, we bet she'll light up brighter than the handmade star on her hand-hewn tree when she sees this tidy tome, guaranteed to make next year saner.

CD: Marianne Faithful's A Perfect Stranger:The Island Anthology. All hail Marianne: Instant celebrity in the '60s, pop exile in the '70s and the comback kid in the recent years, Faithfull has been one of pop's most distinctie chanteuses. This two CD set includes her famous and rare tunes, with songs by John Lennon, Patti Smith, Bono and Steve Winwood. Best Girl Friend:

Movie: Good Will Hunting, or Titanic, depending if she has it yet or not. If she already has Titanic, get her Good Will Hunting. Starring Matt Damon, Robin Williams what better present for your friend than Mr. Damon, especially gift-wrapped for her?

CD: Alanis Morissette's Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie. How many times did your best friend say "You Oughta Know" was about her life? Women addicted to 1995's Jagged Little Pill will find more of what they love this time around, but the CD also throws a few curves. The hit "Uninvited" from the City Of Angels Soundtrack, but there's lots of other stuff to groove to.

Kid Sister: Titanic, starring Leo DeCaprio. Leo posters cover her bedroom wall. Leo fanzines litter the floor;"My Heart Will Go On" has just had its millionth spin on her CD player. What better gift for that Di-Caprio-crazed sister than the Titanic video. The three hour plus movie contains enough Leo to keep her heart throbbing for days...until it's tide her over until it's time to turn the page on her Leo calendar.

Younger Brother: Video: Godzilla, starring Matthew Broderick and Hank Azaria. What could be a more appropriate stocking stuffer for the beastie bro in your life ?
