Shari's Hobbies

My hobby is hiking. My husband and I have done hikes in Zaire and Rwanda to sit with the gorillas. We had to hike for four and a half hours, climbing up from eight thousand to eleven thousand feet in a dense jungle with snakes... and with elephants chasing us. But we adore hiking.

Reading is still a very favorite thing to do. My husband and I read every day. When we go on vacation we go to very primitive places always, and we read until there's no more daylight. At which point we have to stop because there's no electricity.

I love adventure. We collect primitive art, and I like to meet people who live differently from myself. One of the great sadnesses is that I didn't get to Russia while it was still Communist or China while it was still isolationist, so I've missed a lot of places that are really different from my life. I like places where people live different lives than mine.
