Meet Shari Lewis:
Ventriloquist, Actress and Teacher

Shari Lewis

I love Shari Lewis. Her PBS TV show, "Lamb Chop's Play-Along," was one of my favorites.

My dad loved one of Lamb Chop's sayings: " Twinkle, twinkle, little lamb. How I wonder where I am. All my friends are on the farm, but here I am on Shari's arm."

We used to sing "The Song That Never Ends" in the car on long rides. Or sometimes we'd try out "betcha's" or "knock-knock" jokes on each other.

So, when Girl's World reporter, Brigid.c and I got a chance to talk to Lamb Chop's "mom" in 1996, we jumped at it. Shari said she loved the idea of a site where girls got to write and do everything. We were so sorry to hear that she died of cancer in August, 1998. Shari had just started work on her latest PBS children's series, "The Charlie Horse Music Pizza." She won 12 Emmys, including five for "Lamb Chop's Play-Along." Now this article is a tribute to a wonderful woman who brought joy to a lot of kids for many years. Find out her secrets...how she did it...what was important to her as you "hang out with" Shari Lewis!
