Meet Shari Lewis:
Ventriloquist, Actress and Teacher
Shari and the Girl Scouts

My mother was my Girl Scout leader. We went on hikes, and it helped me to be a real outdoors person. Mother even sent us to Girls Scout camp. I love to go exploring. Putting one foot in front of another, out of doors in a beautiful or interesting location, is the best thing in my life. I know that it's all because Mother had me be a Girl Scout.

In Girl Scouting, Mother used to do a lot of crafts with us. I made some of my own puppets, and I really loved crafts. I was a Girl Scout leader for five years, while my daughter was a Scout, from the age of 7 to 12, and when I had my own troop we did macrame and needlepoint.

I have been on the National Board of the Girl Scouts. I think Girl Scouting is a real adventure for girls. What it teaches girls is that girls can do anything.
