Karen: What are some of your favorite things?
Lois: I really like horses but I don't have the time for them anymore or the access. I'm living a city life at the moment. I like canoeing and outdoor things. I like sailing when I can get it which is not very often, and swimming. I tend to like individual outdoor activities rather than team sports. I was always sort of a loner.
Of course, I enjoy reading... and theater. One of the joys of Minneapolis is all the wonderful live theater you can go see. We have a play reading group.
We meet and read plays out loud every few weeks. We worked though Shakespeare's history plays last winter. It was great. One of the other charms of Minneapolis was getting a social group like that going.
And, of course, I have convention travel. That's an interesting mix of business and pleasure. It's not quite a paid vacation. When we took the family vacations when I was a kid, usually my father would have some teaching engagement or a consulting trip. He was a professor of engineering at Ohio State University. And we would attach the family vacation to the business and go somewhere. He would do his business thing and Mom would run us around to see whatever was to be seen. Spend a week by the seaside or whatever.
But now, at least I get to travel around and see the country. I like travel. I'm probably getting enough now. I've done a lot of traveling but it's been quite a while since I went somewhere because I wanted to go just to see it.
