Karen: What are you planning to do in the future?

Lois: For the next few years, more writing, more books. I'm going to continue to develop my series because my series character has gotten a certain kind of thematic development. As my life progresses and there are more themes in my life, I find I can put it into the Miles character and into his books.

Karen: Have you ever thought of doing movies or plays or branching out with other kinds of writing?

Lois: Probably not poetry. Back when I was writing the Spenserian verse I realized I was probably hopelessly prosy. I don't know if I ever will get into writing movies or scripts. It's a very different kind of writing, with different demands of technique. I'd have to train myself to do it professionally just as I trained myself to be a novelist.

I've gotten good at novels. I like novels. One of the things I like about novels is that you can do them yourself. You're not dependent on anybody else for any other aspect. You stand or fall on your own.

Making a movie is more like running an army and I'm not a general. It's a tremendous piece of group art of enormous complexity and it's a very different kind of art. So, scripts, I don't know, not any time soon anyway. Although I think there will be more demand for scripts in future. So, I think I would like to just go on writing novels, thank you!
