Meet Robin Pavlosky
Fashion Museum Curator
Goals and Dreams

Rachel: What are your goals and dreams? What do you see yourself doing in the next ten, 15 years?

Robin: Right now I'm happy in my position the way it is. I haven't really thought about it. I expect that, someday, the director of the museum will retire and maybe I'll take over the Directorship position. I'm sure our director would love to hear that! :-)

I really enjoy the curator part of the position. And my position is split up into several sections. So, it's been a lot of variety. There's a lot of challenge and there are perks as well.

Rachel: What kind of perks?

Robin: Getting to go to museum openings, getting to go to the museum parties and things not only at this museum, at this gallery but gallery openings and museum openings of other museums that we loan pieces to.

Sometimes I go to a museum and say, I'm the curator of such and such. I'd like to look at your, whatever. It's amazing what the word curator after your name really does when you go to a museum. They figure you know, you've taken the time to know what your profession is and that you can go in and they can trust you to look at piece in their collection and not do any damage. So, it's kind of amazing what it can do.

As far as what my goal is for right now, I want to make sure that every part of the costume collection gets the attention it deserves. I want to get the collection up on computer. We have a new computer system, a computer cataloguing system called "picture portfolio." It is brand new, literally, it's not even on the market yet. We are a test site for it. And, eventually, every piece we have in our collection will be available to students and researchers on the computer. So, all you have to do is pull it up by specs, by what it is, who designed it and you will get a whole set of pictures. [It will be] accessible by by the Internet, an online library of costume. It's a long term project -- a very long term project.
