Hi! I'm Gina. I am a part of the Girls World Crew and I just interviewed a girl. This wasn't any old girl. This girl cut her hair to be made into wigs for kids with no hair!
Her name is Elizabeth and she is 12 years old. Her hair was to her back and about 22 inches long. Elizabeth was reading American Girl magazine and found out about a group called "Locks of Love."
This group accepts donations of hair to make wigs for kids who have gone bald from being sick, usually with a disease called alopetia areata. That's when some or even all of your hair falls out and there doesn't seem to be any reason why. Other kids lose their hair to radiation treatment for cancer or maybe by getting burned in a fire.
Her mom wasn't surprised when she found out what her daughter was going to do. Elizabeth was the one who suggested doing it. She wouldn't have a haircut if it wasn't for wigs for kids who really needed them.
When she heard the snip of scissors and saw her hair on the floor, Elizabeth felt scared. But now she likes her new haircut and so does
her mom. That is the story of Elizabeth.
Thanks, Gina...this is one of the greatest things I've ever heard about. It's another way we girls can really make a difference. Maybe you you or your big sister or even your mom will want to make a donation of hair.
You can get in touch with Locks of Love at their website or by letter, phone or fax. You can help kids who always have "bad hair days"!
