Women on Stamps

Who has put a stamp on your world? Be famous! The United States Post Office is looking for notable American Women to honor by putting them on a postage stamp. You can nominate a woman to be on a US postage stamp and win a pass to our exclusive Gold Key Circle Chat Club! Here's how to do it!

1. Find a Notable Woman
What the Judges are Looking For

You must choose a woman who isn't already on a postage stamp. Here's a list of women already honored by the USPS.
Your notable woman must have made an important historical contribution.
Your notable woman must be an American or have contributed to America's History
Your notable woman cannot be a living person.
Your notable woman must have been dead for at least 10 years in order for the Post Office to produce a stamp honoring their life
You must include your notable woman's full name, birth and death dates

To Enter

Choose a woman following the rules above. Here's some sites you can check out for ideas and biographies.

Write a persuasive essay about her contributions. Tell the committee what this woman has done and why she is important to America's history

Make two copies of your essay. Send one here to A Girl's World Online Clubhouse for consideration for your Gold Key Circle Chat Membership.
Send the second copy to the U.S. Postal Service for consideration.

More Ideas on How to Celebrate Women's History
- Write and submit a biographical entry for posting on the Internet's Encyclopedia of History.
- Write a newspaper article describing a particular accomplishment of the woman as though the event has just occurred. Remember to answer "who, what, when, where, and why" in the first paragraph of your story.
