My Friend Ever Believe Me?
My best
friend and I have been through some serious drama this year. We
met in the 8th grade and became instant friends. Along the way we
found out that we are almost like twins. Well, we both have had
a rocky past and have trust issues. She has a hard time letting
people care about her - everytime someone has, they ended up leaving
her in some way, shape or form. SO, when I tell her that I love
her with all my heart and I care about everything that she's going
through, I don't think she believes me. Is there a way that I can
get her to believe me? Because I know I can't describe how much
I love her in words. But I really do; she is like the sister that
I never had and I would do anything for her. I just don't think
she believes me. Help! :)
- Ashley, 15, Virginia
"Hey, Ashley!" Well, you asked for some advice, hoping that there is someone out there who can help you. Here is what I have to say and I hope it can help. You have been hurt also, right? And you know that sometimes when a person is hurt so many times, it's hard for them to start to trust someone. They know people care for them but they don't want to get too attached because they have the fear that they are going to get hurt again. They need a lot of love and time to heal. Believe me, I have been through this. At times you feel so helpless because you want to help her and show her you care, but it doesn't get through to her, right? There is really nothing you can do to change how she thinks or feels. Just keep talking to her. It will get through to her with time. Just stick by her side and always let her know that you are there for her and if she needs to talk or needs a shoulder to cry on, then you are there for her no matter what. She might not tell you or show you that she appreciates how much of a true friend you are, but I am sure that she knows she has a great friend. Just because she doesn't tell you, it doesn't mean that you aren't a good friend. So, thats what I would do. Just stay by her side no matter what and in the end, everything will work out just fine.
