I Want to Get Gramma Off My Back!

HELP! A year ago, My family and I moved into a rental house that my grandmother owns. My grandmother is really cool, but she can be really annoying. Whenever I get home from school, she comes barging in yelling "WHAT ARE ALL OF YOU UP TO TODAY??!!" And she always times it just right, like when I'm on the phone with a friend, or when I'm in my room writing essays or something. I DON'T HAVE ANY PRIVACY.Plus... ever since we moved in, if she sees something broken or a mess in the floor, she blames me! How can I get her off my back? - Autumn, 13, USA

"Hey, Autumn!" Why don't you go over to her right after you get home from school and say really LOUDLY, like she does,"OLA Grandma! What are you up to today? Anything cool going on? Me? Oh, I just have a lot of homework. I probably should get to it after we have a nice little snack of ice cream, hey?"

Tell her ALL about your day, don't stop. And ask her ALL about her day. EVERY DETAIL. Maybe she's just lonely. She'll either think you're really sweet and neat or you'll irritate her and she won't ask too much about you ever again.Either way, she has no excuse to barge into your room anymore, if you just act polite and ask her about herself!

Now, about being blamed for everything. By giving her lots of attention she may like you the best out of everyone and won't blame you for everything anymore! If she still does, however, make sure you tell her you didn't do it calmly, might I add) and say you'll help clean it up anyway. This way you gain her trust and admiration. Pretty soon she'll be blaming someone else and you'll be her favorite! (:
