Dear Family Faire

I Hate Private School!

My dad and mom make me go to a private school. They always have. I hate it. My school is all girls and we have nuns for teachers! We also have to wear uniforms to school everyday. I just want to go into a public school with regular teachers, wear any clothes I want, and have both guys and girls at my school. I can't seem to get through to my parents and they really don't seem to care. They say that private schools are better and they want me to be in a Catholic all girls school. They don't seem to care what I want. How can I get through to them? - Lesa, 11, South Dakota

"Hey, Lesa!" This might not be exactly what you wanted to hear but you know, sometimes
our parents do something, make us do something, or don't let us do something, not because they don't care but because they do care and they love you. I know it may be hard to be in the school you're in, with strict rules and no boys and not getting to wear the clothes you would like to wear, but you also have to remember you are only eleven. Who knows what may happen as you get older?
They may even want to wait 'till you're old enough to make up your own mind to whether or not you want to - or should - go to a different school.

But right now, your parents are the ones that have to make the decision for you. And with them not listening to anything you have to say and not caring how you really feel, maybe you should call for a family meeting. Then say that you really feel as if they do not care about what you have to say and what your feelings on things are. Act mature about it so they can see that maybe you are old enough to make up your mind of where you want to go to school.

And talk about what are really some reasons why they don't want you to go to a regular school; after all, it is cheaper. You might want to throw that out there. Who knows what will happen?

And if that doesn't work, you just might have to wait 'till you're a little olde,r when they think that you can make some decision for yourself.

I wish you the best, and I hope my advise works for you!
