Forever I've wanted to be a singer. My friends and other people have told me that I could be a singer. I told my mom that I wanted to be a singer, and that I wanted to see if I could get an agent. My mom says that I don't need to be a singer and that I never will be. She doesnt believe in me. What do I do? - Sky, 13, California "Hey, Sky!" If you have the confidence to do anything, there is always possibility. Don't let others influence what you can and can't do; do what you think is right. If you are a great singer and have been told that, then put your talent to work. I hate it when good talent goes to waste because someone didn't want to work and go the extra mile. With this singing thing you might want to start small. Are you all ready in a choir? Maybe if you start there and show your mom that you have the ability to go on stage and perform, she might cut you a little slack. The next step would be to work on your talent. Maybe you should start with voice lessons. Then you can have recitals where it is just you and your mom will see how you're willing to develop and work hard to become a singer. When she sees that you're working hard on a goal of yours, maybe she'll start to see that you need to really put your talent to use, instead of wasting it. I know that your mom, and any parent for that matter, is usually the biggest support in your life, but when that support shuts down, look to yourself and good friends for other support. I hope this helps!
