Dear Family Faire

We're Not Identical Anymore!

I have a identical twin sister. Up until this year, we dressed in the same clothes, and shared the same interests and friends. Now things are totally different.I am sporty and involved in alot of sports.I also don't really care about my apperance and I don't bother with make-up. My sister is a real girly-girl and is always talking about guys and things like that. She also wears make-up and spends an hour everyday worrying about her clothes.I can't be bothered. We have are also have two totally different groups of friends. My parents can't seem to understand how different we are! My mom will come home with new clothes for the two of us and they are the exact same.My dad just bought us both new backpacks for school, and yup, they are the same!We both had our twelfth birthday and we both got the same things practically. We have two totally different personalities and likes and dislikes but my mom and dad don't see that! How can I get them to understand that we may look alike but we are both two different girls and like different things? Lucie, 12

"Hey, Lucie!" You're right. Both you and your twin sister are two totally different people. I can see why you don't want to be treated the same, when your not the same!

Have you and your twin sister both talked to your parents and told then how you feel? If you have'nt, you should try that. Your parents might not even realize how important it is to you that you get to express yourself according to your invidual personalities.

If you feel that they're still not getting the message, then why don't you help them realize bit by bit. Maybe ask your mom when you go shopping if you can pick out clothes that you like. Or for your birthdays you can hint what type of present you want and your sister can do the same. Hopefully that will tell them that you like different stuff. For example:if you tell your dad that you want a new basketball and your sister tells him she wants a make-up kit your parents will see what type of stuff interest you.

I hope I helped you Lucie, and I wish the best for you and your sister in helping your parents discover the true you!
