Make your own Potpourri!

Please note that a Star(*) means that ingredient needs to be dried before you use it as potpourri. This means you should lay it out on a cookie sheet in a dark, warm place for a week.

To make your own potpourri, you get to pick the ingredients. You just need to know what type of scent you are looking for-floral, fruity, forest, etc. The following are some suggestions of items you can mix and match to create your own scentcsations!

What You Need

• orange peels*
• lemon peels*
• whole cloves
• crushed cinnamon sticks
• perfume
• scented oils
• shredded soap
• wax shavings from candles
• flower petals*
• any fresh spices/herbs(rosemary, lavender, thyme)
• mint leaves*
• baby powder
• bath crystals
• pine needles
• cedar chips

How to Do It

• Mix the ingredients together and put in a decorative container.
• Make sure if your mix has oils that you don't set it on furniture; it could ruin or stain.
• We suggest putting the potpourri in baskets, jars with lace netting and ribbon covering them, or even an old sock, tied shut and thrown in smelly shoes or in your drawers to keep them smelling good.
• Be imaginative and think of other creative containers and uses.

Potpourri smells so good! We have a neighbor that grows roses and she gave Jessica a whole grocery bag full of roses for making potpourri. Last year we had lots of fresh lavender but someone's lawnmower ate my lavender plant this year!
