AGW'S
HOLLYWOOD REVIEW CREW
PRESENTS
Lesha, 16 of California, one of our "Hollywood Preview Crew", got to
screen a new film that opens soon. Here's what Lesha thought of U-571
U-571 is the story of a U.S. submarine crew during
World War II. It is based on factual events. In the Atlantic Ocean off
the U.S. coast, German submarines (called U-boats), were attacking U.S.
shipping and making it hard for us to win the war. They had special code
devices called "Enigma" that helped them make secret plans to sink our
ships. Our Navy sent out U.S. sailors to "capture" these devices.
U-571 is the story of one of these brave crews.
On their top secret mission, the American sailors end up trapped inside one of
the German U-boats! Most of them can't read German so they don't know
how to make the boat work and, any time, a German destroyer can figure
out that the guys inside are American and sink the boat! How they survive
is a terrific example of teamwork.
I really liked the way the crew worked together to save themselves and
complete their mission. Lt. Andrew Tyler (Matthew McConaughey) is a great character because he starts out not being able to command his
buddies to do things that might cost their lives. At the end he's
learned to be a true leader and work with his men as a team to help win
the war. Some girls may say that U-571 is a "guy" movie, but if you
like loads
of exciting action, thrills and heroism, you'll like this film and the
guys in your life will really like it too.
WARNING: This is a war film and people die, but it is also a true history lesson. If you're under 13, your parents might want to check it out before you decide if you want to see it.
U-571 opened April 21st
This movie is rated PG-13
