Movie Reviews:

The Bee Movie

&

Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium

by Christine, 15, California

BEE MOVIE posterBee Movie is about a bee named Barry who is not satisfied with his new post-college work life. His parents what him to work at Honex, a company located at his hive that makes honey. But Barry wants to explore the world, just once, and when he does he meets a woman named Vanessa. Barry learns about the Human world, and when he goes to the supermarket with her he discovers that humans are stealing the Bee’s honey, and decides to stop it.

There are some pretty good jokes in this movie. But sometimes it seems that the writers thought of the jokes first and added the story later. It caused the story to not really flow. You could say that the theme is that the little jobs really add up if you do them well, but they didn’t portray that throughout the film too well.

This movie did have some funny jokes and some funny parts for children. I thought that this would be a cooler movie for younger kids; however, my brother (9 years old) and my sister (13 years old) said that it was okay but really would not want to see it again. I am sure that out of the 6 billion people on this planet, someone has to like it, and we really did enjoy all going to a movie together. So if you have a little sister or brother and want to have some ‘family time,’ you may enjoy seeing this ‘B’ movie together. Enjoy!

This movie is rated PG

MR MAGORIUM'S WONDER EMPORIUM posterThis was a great movie. It was about a young lady named Molly Mahoney who needs to learn how to believe in herself in order to do the things that she always wanted. The story’s theme is ‘you have to believe it to see it’ which is interestingly portrayed when the non-believing accountant starts working at the wondrous toy store.

I really enjoyed this movie. It had a lot of cool effects that make it a great movie for children because there are toys moving and flying. You also have subtle jokes that make it entertaining for teens and parents to watch. Be sure to pay attention to the details and subtle humor because some of them reoccur later, which makes it more fun for older audiences.

My little sister, 13, and brother, 9, both went to see this movie and they really enjoyed it. My sister was even crying at parts of it (she got my shirt wet!). My sister says that she really wants to watch it again because of the detailed jokes and the touching story.

The holidays are coming and you are probably are going to have a lot of little cousins over. This will be a great movie to take them to. This movie is appealing to children and adults of all ages and I highly recommend it.
