AGW'S HOLLYWOOD REVIEW CREW PRESENTS
Billy Elliot
Lynn.b of California, one of our "Hollywood Preview Crew", got to go to a screening
of a new film! Here is what Lynn thought of BILLY ELLIOT
11-year-old
BILLY ELLIOT is the son of a coal miner in Northern England.
His dad has enrolled him in boxing lessons but Billy becomes more interested
in a ballet class taking place in the same gym. The ballet teacher,
Mrs. Wilkinson, sees that Billy has natural dance talent.
Billy has to keep his dance lessons secret from his "macho" dad and
brother Tony who are miners involved in a bitter strike. When his dad
and brother find out about Billy's love of dance, they are furious.
Mrs. Wilkinson wants Billy to try out for the Royal Ballet School in
London!
Billy's family is still totally against his efforts until Dad actually
sees Billy dance. Realizing that his son does have real talent, Dad
does everything he can, including going against his fellow miners, to
help raise money for Billy to go to his audition in London.
The whole town is behind Billy as he goes off to fulfill his dream.
Does he make it into the Royal Ballet School? Go see this excellent,
heartwarming film and find out!
Any girl who ever had a passion for dance (or softball or acting or
writing or...anything) can identify with BILLY ELLIOT. All the odds are
stacked against this kid from a lower-class family of macho men who
think dance is "sissy" but Billy knows that it feels like "flying" and
"electricity" to him and he sticks with it. This film is really the
story of the relationship between a father and son and how love is the
center of everything; it can move mountains and change life-long
beliefs. There is some rough language in the movie and the Northern
England accents are sometimes hard to understand but we can all grasp
the heart of the story and it's a great one. If you ever had a dream,
so see this film!
Note: Since this movie is rated "R" your parents might want to check it out first.
