BRING IT ON is about two cheerleading squads
competing to be the best in the nation. The teams consist of the "Toros"
with newly-elected Torrance (Kirsten Dunst) as captain and the "Clovers"
with Isis (Gabrielle Union) as
captain (she's a member of the hip hop group "Blaque"). During practice
one day before a big competition, one of the cheerleaders falls off the
top of a pyramid
and breaks her leg. So, the Toros need to find a new member for their
squad, and quick. After many hours of horrible auditions, they find the
perfect one, Missy, (Eliza Dushku) a girl who just moved from Michigan.
She
tries out for the team only because the school doesn't offer gymnastics.
Missy can't believe that the routine they are practicing is one she had already seen! Missy drives Torrance to Compton where she witnesses the Clovers' routines and Torrance realizes that her old captain had been stealing the cheers from this team (The Compton Clovers)! The Toros need to find a new routine for the national competition which is just a few weeks away. They hire a choreographer to help them come up with a new and original show.
The Toros find out that the Clovers can't be in the national competition for lack of enough sponsorship. Torrance tries to convince her dad's company to sponsor them since she realizes that they are truly deserving and have a lot of talent. Did the Clovers earn the sponsorship to go to the national championship? Who ultimately wins the competition? You'll have to see the film for the answers. This movie shows just how hard cheerleaders can work to get a routine down. Torrance is a good heroine because she knows that cheating is wrong and sets out to correct the mistakes her old team captain made. She helps talented girls get the fair chance they deserve. BRING IT ON is a lot of fun. The moves and music are great. Go see it. You'll be glad you did.
