AGW Entertainment reporter Lynn B. saw a new family film. Here are her thoughts on....

THE CROCODILE HUNTER: COLLISION COURSE

MGM STUDIOS

Animal Planet's Aussie wildman Steve Irwin knew he had some aggressive crocs to catch and relocate. When he mentioned this to his buddy director/camerman John Stainton, Stainton thought that would make a start for a dandy movie. Crikey! Why not?

It seems that a croc has swallowed a top secret U.S. spy satellite black box that contains sensitive info and the C.I.A. is convinced that Steve and wife Terri are secret agents who are after it. The government assigns two top operatives who are totally crocs-out-of-water in the Queensland outback. The Irwins think they are poachers. A comedy of errors results that also involves a feisty rancher who wants to kill the huge croc that has swallowed the clock…uh, no, wait.. that was in Peter Pan but you get it.

Grinning, in-your-face, Steve Irwin is popular with lots of kids as he cavorts with snakes, wrestles crocs, pets spiders and inspects "poo" on his t.v. show. Kids actually learn facts about animals in the process and, let's face it…the guy can be a riot! For this film, footage of the Irwins rescuing a cute baby wallaby, inspecting spiders, snakes and actually relocating a feisty, ticked-off croc was shot separately and the rest of the plot was tacked on and that's exactly what it looks like. The CIA plot is beyond silly and just not needed. The Irwins certainly aren't going to win any acting awards. Paul Hogan as Crocodile Dundee far outdoes them but do we care?

Magda Szubanksi (Mrs. Hoggett in Babe) was amusing as a crusty rancher with some really cute watchdogs! I'd say a film about her versus the Irwins would have been much more comedic. As is, if you and your buds or parents are crazy about the croc hunter, you'll enjoy every moment he's on screen but the rest of the film is pretty much like, well….croc poo!
