AGW Entertainment reporter Lynn B. saw a new romantic comedy. Here are her thoughts on....

How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days

Paramount Pictures

When women's magazine columnist Andie Anderson (Kate Hudson) agrees to write a firsthand article on how to keep guys away and bets she can lose one who is attracted to her in ten days, she has no idea that the guy she picks has his own bet going. He's Ben Barry (Matthew McConaughey) a womanizing advertising exec who, in order to land a big deal, has promised his boss he can get a woman to fall in love with him in ten days. Can a fake relationship blossom into the real thing? Will the agendas get in the way of true love? What do you think?

At last..a romantic comedy with some chemistry between the leads! Matthew and Kate admit that they jelled from day one and it shows. It's easy to get tired of the typical formula for these comedies that usually involves some clueless dude who is the center of a wild ride that centers on the girl he's attracted to. There is usually a race to the church at the end.

"Ten Days" has all the charming pitfalls you would expect when boy meets girl but, this time, boy has his own plan that doesn't include a leash around his neck. It's gratifying to see a strong guy and gal come into a relationship with their own agendas and watch true love mess with them. Girls will like Kate's character and totally identify with at least one or two of the things she does or lists to lose a guy. Okay, I've done the drive-by (or ride your bike by) thing (not shootings.. just spying…. The shooting comes later if he's supposed to be there and is out with another girl...I'm joking!). Kate admitted she's done this too so don't feel like a stalker, girls!

Guys can totally get behind Ben as he suffers through horrible indignities to hang in there for the ten days to win a bet. Of course chemistry can get in the way of the best plans and that's what makes this film so charming. Both leading characters are likable and very real. We meet Ben's family and each of us can probably pick out one member that reminds us of our own black sheep. Kate's girlfriends are like everyone we know and her bottom-line boss (played with spunk by the wonderful Bebe Neuwirth) is all too real.

There are great jewels, fab dresses, a cute guy, a cute girl and a romance you can believe. What's not to like?

Rated: PG-13
