AGW'S HOLLYWOOD REVIEW CREW PRESENTS
Lesha, 16 of California, one of our "Hollywood Preview Crew", got to screen a
spooky new summer film! Here are Lesha's thoughts on WHAT LIES BENEATH
In the suspense-thriller WHAT LIES BENEATH, Dr.
Norman Spencer (Harrison Ford) is a research scientist who spends most
of his time on his work. This has strained his marriage with Claire
(Michelle Pfeiffer) who is suffering from "empty-nest syndrome" because
her teen daughter Caitlin (Katharine Towne) has just gone off to
college. Claire also has a blank spot in her memory surrounding a
year-old car accident. Carrying all this stress, Claire seems to be
cracking up when she first suspects that the man next door has killed
his wife and then starts experiencing weird things when alone at home;
doors opening, electronic equipment going on by itself, etc.
Claire's problems escalate when she hears voices and then sees a
ghost-like, mysterious woman. Very frightened, Claire tells Norman who
seems worried and sends her to a psychiatrist but the ghostly girl
doesn't go away. Through investigating, piecing together clues and with
the help of best friend Jody (Diana Scarwid), Claire learns that this
woman was a student of her husband's and discovers the girl's unsavory
connection with him. What happens then is an escalating spook fest that
causes the terrified Claire to distrust her husband and worry about her
daughter.

This film is spooky, creepy and scary without being a slasher movie.
It's more like the old Hitchcock films ("The Birds", "Psycho", "Marnie")
but with some great modern special "ghost" effects. It has several
twists that you aren't expecting and some really effective "boo" moments
that make you jump. Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfeiffer are great
together as the lead couple. This is a really kickin' date film. If
you want to hold hands, snuggle or grab your b.f.'s arm, this scary
summer "haunt" gives you a terrific excuse!
WHAT LIES BENEATH opens July 21
This movie is rated "PG-13"
