AGW'S HOLLYWOOD REVIEW CREW PRESENTS
Meet the Parents

Meet the Parents
Lynn B. of California, one of our "Hollywood Preview Crew", got to go to a screening of a new film! Here are Lynn's thoughts on Meet the Parents

Male nurse Greg Focker (pronounced "Foh-ker")played by Ben Stiller, is about to propose to his girlfriend Pam (Teri Polo)when she tells him that her sister is getting married and it was cool that the intended groom asked their dad for her hand. Greg realizes that he's going to have to "meet the parents" and especially has to face Pam's controlling and pretty scary dad Jack Byrnes (Robert De Niro).

Together Pam and Greg go to her New York family home for her sister Debbie's wedding where Greg plans to ask Jack for Pam's hand. The fun really starts when the family gets together and everything goes wrong for poor Greg. Jack turns out to be an ex-CIA agent who interrogates Greg mercilessly, even giving him a lie detector test! Jack never "gets" Greg's witty jokes and keeps putting down his profession as a male nurse. When Greg accidentally sets the house and yard on fire, hits Pam's sister in the face with a volleyball right before her wedding, and leaves the door open so Jack's beloved cat runs away, etc. etc., it looks like Greg and Pam will never be husband and wife.
Meet the Parents

Greg gives up and is leaving town when Pam's mother Dina (played wonderfully by Gwenneth Paltrow's real-life mom Blythe Danner) convinces Jack that Pam really loves this guy and Jack should stop frightening away all of her boyfriends. Jack goes after Greg and, in his own rough way, apologizes.

This film is hilarious. There are tons of funny sight gags that will crack you up but there's more. Robert De Niro and Ben Stiller as the dad and would-be son-in-law, are really funny together. It's great fun to see De Niro, who has recently been doing more comedy roles, cuddling his beloved cat and planning covert operations while talking about his family's "circle of trust". MEET THE PARENTS is a great movie to see with your family, best pals or b.f. Enjoy!
