PAY IT FORWARD is the school project of unhappy young TREVOR (Haley Joel Osment). It's a change-the-world idea that works like a chain letter; do a good deed for three people and they pass it on, etc. Trevor lives in Las Vegas with his single, alcoholic mom ARLENE (Helen Hunt) who is trying desperately to stay sober.

Trevor decides that putting his mom together with his lonely burn-scarred teacher EUGENE will help fulfill his assignment and change all their lives for the better. Arlene and Eugene are attracted to each other and it seems that a new family might be formed. Meanwhile, CHRIS CHANDLER, a reporter, gets news of the "Pay It Forward" idea because it is spreading across the U.S. He traces the origin of the idea to Trevor who agrees to help him with his story.

When Trevor's drifter dad RICKI (Jon Bon Jovi) returns, it drives the insecure Eugene away from the family. It seems that there's no hope for a happy homelife but when Arlene finally kicks out Trevor's abusive dad for good and just when Trevor convinces Eugene to return, something unexpected happens that changes everything.

PAY IT FORWARD is a very well-acted film that has hope at its core. What if the world didn't have to "suck" as young Trevor says? What if people just did good deeds when they could and passed it on? Such a thing seems so simple but getting people to get involved in the lives of their fellowman is more difficult. Although this movie can be a bit sappy at times, you will care about these characters and cry with them as they struggle to make connections that can better their lives. We could all learn a lesson from young Trevor and you'll take the spirit of this film home with you. Warning: Bring a box of tissues!
