AGW'S HOLLYWOOD REVIEW CREW PRESENTS

Remember the Titans
Christina.b, 13 of California, one of our "Hollywood Preview Crew", got to go to a screening of a new film! Here are Christina's thoughts on REMEMBER THE TITANS

REMEMBER THE TITANS is an excellent movie. It was one of those movies that actually had a good lesson. This film deals with the racial differences that many people are faced with daily. It takes place in the South in 1971 when tension between races was at an all time high. The first conflict begins when Coach Boone (Denzell Washington) is brought in to be head coach of the high school football team the Titans. This becomes a problem for two reasons: first, all the players are white and second, the current coach is white also and very loved by the team. He is the one that people think should have had that job.

Another problem with having Coach Boone as head coach is that he wants to have his own players join the Titans and they are all black. Should they fire Coach Boone and try to keep the races separated, or hire him and try to forget the racial differences and just play football?
Remember the Titans

Coach Boone ends up as head coach and decides that before the season starts, the players need to get to know each other. He takes them to football camp where they train for weeks for hours upon hours a day. Coach Boone decides that the best way to get these boys to know each other is to have them be roommates. Each room consists of a black team member and a white team member. All the Titans are very upset with this arrangement. As you would guess, many fights and disagreements take place.

A tragedy at the end of the movie helps everyone realize that they're all the same after all. The players eventually bond so closely, that they become friends for life. This film is based on real-life people. It's a very heartwarming story about overcoming a community's racial differences. The whole family would enjoy it.

REMEMBER THE TITANS opens September 29th
