AGW Entertainment reporter Lynn B. saw a new romantic comedy film. Here are her thoughts on....

MIRAMAX PICTURES

Gwyneth Paltrow, Christina Applegate and Kelly Preston made this airline flight attendant comedy before 9/11. It has been "grounded" until now. Since the comedy contains no terrorism or crashes, I'm not sure why but, hey, it's here now to take our minds off war and put them in the clouds.

Donna Jensen (Gwyneth Paltrow) is a bored small town trailer trash gal from Nevada with big dreams. When she sees the t.v. appearance of a "legendary" flight attendant (Candice Bergen), she's inspired to escape to the friendly skies. Donna is trained by bitter instructor John Whitney (Mike Myers) and pals around with fellow stew trainee Christine (Christina Applegate) who eventually stabs her in the back. Her goals are further challenged by her love for Ted, a young lawyer (Mark Ruffalo) who wants to marry her. Will she enjoy reaching her goals or give it up for love?

I think the real stars of this film are the costumes and make-up! From the tacky, colorful spandex outfits and big hair worn by the early Donna and her pals to the beautifully-tailored designer inspired uniforms seen later in the film, the fashions are eye-popping (although does anybody know a stew flying now who wears stuff like this?) The clothes are 60's throwbacks and make the "classy" version of Gwen look like Audrey Hepburn but guys will love seeing those great bods and girls will have fun commenting on what looks best or worst.

Mike Meyers plays his role with a severely crossed right eye that is both distracting and annoying after a while so that even his usually funny comic routines get old. Candice Bergen is great as always and delivers her lines in the same wonderful snippy fashion as she did as the mayor in Sweet Home Alabama. Mark Ruffalo is cute and huggy-bearish as the love interest.

We might wonder why Donna doesn't set some higher goals for herself but the final scene in the film seems to show that she has…although her final "job" isn't set up in the film at all. This movie is total fluff but, hey, it's cute. The girls are cute, the slapstick humor is silly/funny and Gwyneth looks really great and like she's having a lot of fun. Stay around through the closing credits because you get funny bloopers and a rockin' dance and song.

Rated: PG-13
