She is sixteen years old and enjoys being a girl. She also loves colors that pop and to shop until you drop. She is from Kentwood, Louisiana. She loves to travel and since she was little she wanted to be singer.

At age eight she auditioned for " Mickey's Mouse Club " in Atlanta. But... she was too young; so a producer helped her secure an agent in N.Y. and then started studying at Off- Broadway Dance Center and at the Professional Performing Arts School. Then at age eleven Britney "won" a coveted place on the Mickey Mouse Club show. She appeared in the 1991 comedy "Ruthless".

Her fav. singers are : Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, and Whitney Houston. She admits needs a lot of work with geometry and Spanish. She was recording with Martin in Sweden and in New Jersey with Foster White. She says she is ready to make her own special mark : "I love performing more than anything and making people hear my music. I know I've had to give up some stuff to do this , but I don't miss high school."

The music industry can be a hazardous place for anyone, but one would think it especially so for a teenage girl. The sharks that infest those waters pose little or no threat though to Britney Spears. She's an irrepressible force, already making her mark where so many have failed before her.

At 16 Britney is already a veteran in these lofty circles, getting her start long before most ever think about such things. When Britney was 8 years old she auditioned for the Mickey Mouse Club, but the director said she was too young. The casting director said she should go to New York, so she went and did auditions and finally auditioned for the Mickey Mouse Club again later and she got the part. She did it for about 2 years. Britney was a bright, talented young force on the Mickey Mouse Club, sharing the stage with 2 future members of N'Sync, JC Chasez and Justin Timberland.

• Britney kind of likes songs that have a little of their own personality and reflect a little of her personality.
• Britney performed beside Disney World for the MMC and there were like about 20 kids there. She said it was awesome and really fun.

Is Britney a good role model for girls and teens?

Here at AGW, we feel every girl's opinion should be heard. Here are other thoughts about Britney.

our "Hangin' With Britney Spears" article disturbed me a bit. I've read articles in different newspapers about how Britney is not a good role model for teen girls because of her image. The article featuring Britney in "Rolling Stones" magazine is just plain nauseating. It features pictures of Britney in somewhat perverted clothing for someone her age, such as underwear, tiny shorts with "baby" written across the seat, and others.

She was also posing in ways which a teenage girl should not even consider doing. Sure, the Spice Girls may dress like she does, but they're old enough to know what they're doing, and they're old enough for it to be okay for them to do it. But when somebody is underage, it's unacceptable. Britney's image encourages young girls to dress and act like that, and it's definitely not something children should be encouraged to do. Britney encourages the act of XXXxualizing teens, and that's not right. If you've seen her video, or seen some of the pictures taken of her, you might notice that they aren't very appropriate for young viewers or for Britney.

In interviews, Britney has dismissed the issue of her XXXxy image, saying things about the fact that "everybody's doing it" and that there's nothing wrong with it. I'm not making this up either because I've seen the interviews and I've read the articles. If a newspaper would lie about something like that, then the world really is falling apart.

And yes, of course. Britney has lots of girl power. Anybody who would go around promoting XXX to young people definitely has girl power. I thought girl power was about girls taking control of their own lives, and doing something to make a difference. I never thought that trying to attract male audiences with a XXXxy image was girl power. If this is what girl power's about then I don't think I want to have any part of it anymore. I'm sorry if this isn't a very pleasant letter to have to receive, but I feel that people should be informed about something when they've been advertising the image that people like Britney promote.

      I was shocked to see the articles about Britney Spears. I thought your site was about all kinds of girls getting along and celebrating differences. I came to your site mainly because you did not worship pop artists who set bad examples for girls like all too many teen magazines and sites do. I think Britney Spears is the worst of all. All her songs are about being a helpless girl wanting some guy back in her life. Girls should think that they can be independent, and when they find someone truly meaningful in their life, then they can worry about "getting hit one more time." I think Britney Spears promotes girls showing themselves off without any other power except their looks. She makes girls think they can show off to boys in an inappropriate manner. I think women and girls have come to far to be brought back generations like that. She also sets a bad example for boys. She is making them think they can take any girl they want, and she "should" and "better" show her love back. She also promotes abuse because she is selling herself to guys, so they start to think it's okay, that every worthy girl is or should be like her.

I think guys need to be taught that looks are not everything, but when you have a celeb like Britney Spears being worshipped for her looks, it distorts their view. Same for girls. Britney Spears is telling girls that if you are thin, have or desperately want a guy, wear too much make-up, get plastic surgery and exploit yourself then you will get the big time. She is NOT about accepting your self, like we should be aiming for. She is, instead, saying, "Hey, if you're not perfect, you better change it!" The rate of depression, poor body image, and eating disorders in girls is high enough already. We could at least not worship and make out like people like Britney Spears are such a big, great deal.
