Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters
by Lynn Barker
The film Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, based on the popular novel, was a big hit with kids and teens. Next in the action/adventure/fantasy franchise will be Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, based on another of the “Percy” novels by author Rick Riordan.
For the Percy-clueless, the new film (out August 7, 2013 in 3D) continues the story of young demigod (part Greek God, part human) Percy’s journey to fulfill his destiny. Now Percy and his buddies have to find the magical Golden Fleece of legend in order to save themselves and their world. The quest will take them through the dreaded Sea of Monsters (our Bermuda Triangle). Power-mad fellow demigod Luke (son of God Hermes) is back and determined to rule and Percy (son of sea god Poseidon) will have to ask “dad” for some help battling zombies and way more.
On the 20th Century Fox studio lot recently, we saw about 30 minutes of the new film introduced to us by young director Thor Freudenthal and it was rockin’. Effects, action and creatures are very cool and there is humor and some cool surprises in the mix as well. Let’s just say Percy discovers a family member he didn’t know he had and his major competition in the new film is a very powerful teen female.
Come back closer to August for our interviews with Logan Lerman (Percy), Alexandra Daddario (Annabeth), Leven Rambin (Clarisse) and Brandon T. Jackson (Grover).
