Hanging With
Sara McLachlan at Lilith Fair!

Sarah McLachlan started Lilith Fair -- an event of totally female artists that rocked the world last summer. She and many other singers joined together amidst a lot of sexism and controversy against an all women group. Sarah's dream was to overcome the sexism against women in the music industry and to get together alot of great women bands to tour.

These bands and singers included the Indigo Girls, Paula Cole, Shawn Colvin, Sarah McLachlan, Jewel, Fiona Apple and many more. Sarah had to really fight against what people were saying, how they thought "an all women tour" would never work. That no one would come. Many reporters criticized it and yet Sarah and her group pushed on.

It ended up that half a million people came to see Lilith Fair and it was a great sucess. Best of all it was a great step forward for women muscians/artists. Sarah when interviewed said that the times had been rough, that she and the other singers had experienced alot of wall blocks in achieving this goal, but that in the end after they had worked so hard it was really all worth it.

One reporter in closing notes stated that it was wonderful to see the young girls and women so into the music created by these female artists. She noted that the influence of Lilith Fair may produce the next generation of female musicians (young girls today). This is a great achivement for women in general and it shows if you have a dream and you really try and reach for it, then you can accomplish it!

Sarah McLachlan has not only led the way for women but she also set it up so that proceeds from Lilith Fair went to a foundation for the protection of women against rape and violence.
