Taylor Momsen:The Littlest Gossip Girlby Lynn B
When we first caught sight of young teen Taylor at a party launching the new CW shows, our mouth dropped. She looks at least 17! Maybe she’s growing up too fast but we think she has a good head on her pretty shoulders so, hopefully, she won’t go down the Lindsay/Paris wildchild road, at least not yet. Check out our chat. Picture Taylor in a flashy hot pants outfit. AGW: Is this really exciting for you to make a transition onto a show with older kids? Taylor: Oh, it’s totally a blast. I’m having so much fun. Everyone is so great. I am younger, obviously, and it’s a reality check, at the end of the day, because they treat me like such an individual, which I totally appreciate and totally love. But then, they’ll go out and I have to go home and do homework. [Laughs] But, it’s good. I love it. Everyone’s so nice. AGW: In the series you have cute Penn Badgley as a protective older bro. Do you have an older bro in real life? Taylor: No, I’m the oldest. I think that’s the only time I’m actually the oldest. I’m always the baby. I’m the baby in my school. I’m the baby on the show. I have a little sister who’s 10. Her name is Sloane and she’s awesome. I love her. She looks just like me. She’s done a couple things, like ‘SVU,’ and stuff like that. AGW: Did you and Penn sit down and talk about the brother/sister relationship? Taylor: We didn’t really sit down, but at the beginning of filming, he said, ‘I don’t have a little sister. I don’t really get you.’ And then, by the end of the [pilot episode] he was like, ‘No, don’t talk to him. He can’t talk to you.’ He’s protective now. He’s like a big brother to me. AGW: He told
us he does feel that way. Chace [Crawford] and Ed [Westwick] are going
to have an apartment in New York. Are you going to live with your parents? AGW: Aren’t you a California girl? Taylor: No, I’m a St. Louis girl. I grew up in St. Louis, and I currently live in Maryland. I guess I can almost say I’m currently living in New York. AGW: Did you watch ‘The O.C.’? Were you familiar with it? Taylor: I was a little younger when that show came on. I was a little young for it, so I probably watched a couple episodes of the last season. But, some of my friends were obsessed with it and were literally crying when it was over. I was like, ‘It’s okay, ‘Gossip Girl’ is coming on!’ AGW: Had you been familiar with the ‘Gossip Girl’ books at all? Taylor: Yeah, I had read a couple of them. Again, my friends are obsessed with them. They read them constantly. They tell me what happens. It’s kind of strange. I don’t want to read them all now because it’s going to spoil the scripts for me, every week. But, I’m sure they’ll change it from the books. AGW: The mystery Gossip Girl texts everyone with the latest buzz. Are you an IM or a Sidekick girl? Taylor: I am obsessed with texting. I don’t really have a Sidekick type of phone. I have a nail polish painted phone. It’s fun. I can change it every week. You just take it off with nail polish remover. It works great. But, I can text 24/7. It’s crazy. I can do it without looking now. It’s my new thing. My mom sees me and is like, ‘Taylor, it’s like you’re doing braille or something’. You just know. AGW: You are still in school. How are you going to handle that while working? Taylor: I go to a public school now. In New York, I’m going to be going into a public performing arts school. It’s going to be great. They’ll give me my work and they’ll work with me. When I have to go on the set, I’ll be in a tutor program, but it’s the work from the school, so I can drop back into class on a day I’m not working. It will be really great. AGW: Do you have friends that aren’t in the business? Taylor: Oh, totally. Most of my friends are not in the business. I have a couple who are, but most of my friends are just from my school. We go hang out and do normal stuff. We go shopping, go to movies, go hang out at the normal places. It’s great. AGW: Are you ready for the fame this is going to bring you?
AGW: Aren’t you going to miss them when you go to New York? Taylor: I will, but I live in Maryland right now, so it’s not that far. Actually, one of my friends has already planned to come up and visit me. It’s going to be great. AGW: What kind of clothing designers are you into? Taylor: I love Miu Miu shoes. Shoes are my favorite thing. I’m wearing Alice + Olivia right now. I love them. I know I have so many designers I love. Dolce & Gabbana. I love Diesel for everyday wear. AGW: What kind of music do you like to listen to? Taylor: I love a lot of different things. I’m a dancer, so I like to listen to hip-hop stuff for dancing. But, then I love rock. I love Garbage. I love alternative music. Garbage is my favorite band. I think [Shirley Manson] is amazing. I love Evanescence. Amy Lee has the best voice in the world. She’s like an angel. It’s crazy. I love Avril Lavigne. And then, I grew up with Britney Spears and I love pop. I still love her music. AGW: You are too active and thin to worry about weight but do you do something to stay in shape? Taylor: I don’t want to say I work out. I probably should. But, I have gym every day. We used to run a mile, like every day. It was not fun. I don’t like running. But, I dance. I dance three times a week, for a couple hours, every time. AGW: What do you think is going to happen with your character on the show? Taylor: I’m sure whatever they come up with is going to be great. The writers are amazing and, so far, it’s been awesome. If I had to make a prediction, I’m guessing she’s going to be a little more involved with the whole dynamic of the upper inner circle. Geez, a 13-year-old just said “whole dynamic of the upper inner circle”. Whoa!
