Hangin With Presents Will Smith |
An AGW Exclusive!Presented by: Lesha, 16, California
First thing... Congratulations from A Girl's World to Will Smith and wife Jada on the HALLOWEEN NIGHT birth of their baby girl Willow! She's a 6 pound, 10 ounce, 3rd child for Will and Jada! Definitely a treat, not a trick!
Will Smith is one busy dude lately. In his new film The Legend of
BAGGER VANCE, rated PG-13, he plays a guardian-angel-like fellow who
tries to show pro golfer Rannulph Junuh (Matt Damon) that he's failing
as a golfer because he's looking for power and happiness externally when
it's inside him all the time. It's a new gentle kind of film for the
usually wacky Smith. With "Bagger's" opening and Will's becoming a new
papa, the star was pretty swamped but we managed to get answers to a few
of your questions:
DONNA, 13, New York asked: We hear your charater in this movie is very mysterious. Are you playing a real human guy or Matt Damon's "angel"?
WILL SMITH: Bagger is like a guardian angel or spiritual guide. The center of Bagger's relationship with Junuh is showing him that the power, the happiness, all of the things we search for externally, are inside us all the time.
TEESHA, 16, California asked: What attracted you to this part? How is this character different from others you've played?
WILL SMITH: I thought "Bagger Vance" was a great opportunity for me to just turn it off (the wild and crazy side). This is the first time in my career that I completely surrendered all of my instincts and my nautral desire to bend scenes into the "Will Smith" thing. I just completely gave myself as a tool to (director) Robert Redford to create the film he wanted to create.
NANCY, 12, Canada asked: How did all the actors in the film get along on the set? Was anyone a prankster?
WILL SMITH: I'm a big prankster, but I was very surprised to find out Matt (Damon) is silly and crazy too. We all had a really good time on set.
For those of you who are behind on Will's career, he has starred in two of the biggest blockbusters of all time, INDEPENDENCE DAY and MEN IN BLACK. He started out a Grammy-winning recording artist when he turned to t.v. as THE FRESH PRINCE OF BEL-AIR. Will has also won an NAACP Image Award for his role in ENEMY OF THE STATE with Gene Hackman. Will recorded the theme song for WILD WILD WEST and continues his music career. Word has it that he'll star in the bio-pic ALI based on the life of famous boxer Mohammad Ali (Cassius Clay).
