Celebrity Mail
How to Reach Your Fav Stars and Get Answers!

Ever wanted to write a letter to a celebrity? You know, fan mail to the Backstreet Boys, a note to Leonardo, give advice to the President? Some girls collect letters from famous people. Here's one writers' tips on how to get letters back from people who are famous.

What to send...

  1. Stand out from the crowd.
Stars get thousands of letters each day. They often need assistants to help with the mail. What you need to do is make your letter stand out so it gets more attention! Try hand decorating the outside of your envelope with stamps, stickers and use a gold pen to write the address.

  2. Next, have something unique to say!
Anybody can say, "I'm your biggest fan." Try saying why! Send poems or stories or a little something handmade, like a bookmark.

  3. Share who you are!
Do you act? Are you great at sports? Tell the celeb a little about yourself (age, hobby, family, school favs)-- what's important to you. Tell them how you connect. What things do you share in common? Include a picture of yourself and your pet, especially sheepdogs like Sockhop! -- (some puppy humor there!)

  4. Be polite.
If you ask for an autograph, a picture, or a special greeting for your birthday, be sure to say "Please" and "Thank you." Taking time to share with fans is a favor from a star, not something they get paid to do!

  5. K.I.S.S.
No, don't write on the outside with lipstick, it will smear. "Keep it Short and Simple." Stars get lots of mail and are awfully busy. Keep your letter to one page if possible.

  6. Put your address on the letter
Envelopes and letters get separated, so be sure your address is on your letter as well as on your envelope.

  7. Include an S.A.S.E.
If you would like a response, include a "Self Addressed, Stamped Envelope."You know, an empty envelope addressed to you with a stamp on it. If you want a big, signed picture, send an eight and a half by ten envelope with postage on it and your address.

Where to Write?

You can almost always reach somebody famous through the place they work for. Bands have record labels. Writers have publishers. Actors (male or female) work for studios. Athletes play for a particular team. Look on the jacket of the CD, the box of the video or the inner page of a book.

Official websites are also a good place to find addresses. You can find lots of listings by typing in the name of your favorite star at the Yahooligans website. Here are a few addresses I dug up for you from different places. Be sure to write the name of the show and the stars name on the outside of your envelope. And good luck! Collecting letters from celebs is a great hobby.
