Skin in the Game: The Pros and Cons of Professional Spa Treatments

Skin in the Game: The Pros and Cons of Professional Spa Treatments

Relaxation and rejuvenation is serious business. When it comes to taking it easy, there are some hard decisions to be made. The global wellness business is big business, to the tune of $3.4 trillion. That’s three times the size of the global pharmaceutical market.

Spa treatment is a significant part of that market. It is hard to say just how big the spa business is because spa can encompass many things. At its root, a spa is a mineral spring with health-giving properties. You might even call it a fountain of youth. The Bible makes mention of such a healing pool in the gospels. It is a common theme throughout human history and mythology.

Remove the magic and you have a trillion dollar business selling revitalization as a product and service. It is only natural that we have found ways to provide this service to ourselves at home for a lot less money than paying professionals. That is the obvious benefit of taking matters into your own hands.

But you literally have skin in the game. And there are a lot of things to consider besides the cost of treatments. Here are a few reasons you might want to consult a professional for your next rejuvenation session:

Comprehensive Treatment

The Spa Society in New Jersey is just one example of a comprehensive treatment center that offers far more services under one roof than a person could reasonably expect to provide at home. There are many such facilities throughout the world.

There is a good chance your home treatment will not include radio-frequency skin tightening & body contouring. And if you only purchased some facial mask for a home application, you may not have known that such a treatment even existed as an option.

A comprehensive spa facility can open your world to new possibilities. No one will need or want every treatment offered in a comprehensive treatment center. But when it comes to spa treatments, more options are better. Home treatments simply can’t keep up with what is available in professional centers.

Some Treatments Can’t Be Done Alone

Try giving yourself a back massage. Better yet, don’t try. You can’t do it. That’s why at home spa trends focus on things like masks and scrubs and pedicures. These are the types of things you can do on your own, and with very little by way of expertise.

You obviously need a second person for most any type of meaningful massage. A self-manicure is not the easiest thing to pull off either. Even hair removal can be challenging if it’s in a tough to reach area. And some treatments can be dangerous if you are trying to carefully apply a potentially harmful chemical with a mirror in one hand and an applicator in the other.

Even those treatments that can be done alone somewhat miss the point of spa treatments. One aspect of a spa is that you are pampered by another. You can completely relax without care or responsibility. That aspect of the spa day is completely lost if you are the one stuck doing all of the work. To be fully revitalized, you have to completely let go and let someone else do all of the work. Feeling beautiful can be very hard work indeed.

The Professional Touch

Even if you could give yourself a massage, you wouldn’t want to. You are not the one who went to school to learn all about the various muscle groups and bone structures. You are not the one who did the years of training and got the state certifications that met regulatory approval. The professionals at your comprehensive health spa did all that, and more.

There are a number of treatments that can’t be done at home due to the lack of the specialized equipment and training necessary to pull it off. That is not to say that you cannot have some partial spa experiences at home. But getting the full treatment requires professional assistance.

It is always worth it to consider money and time-saving options. But when it comes to your own skin, what you really want is a comprehensive treatment, treatments you can’t do by yourself, and the professional touch from someone who really knows what they are doing.
