Will He Ever Figure Out He Likes Me?

Okay, here's the scoop. I like this guy at my school. He knows I do, because I told him twice (once willingly, second time he asked). I don't really regret telling him, because 1) he already knew, and 2) it didn't change the friendship. My problem is that I don't know if I'm reading the signs right. I have consulted my mom and my friends, and I get the same answer, "I think he likes you but is either denying it or doesn't realize it."

Basically, I see a lot of the signs that are saying, "Give me time, I will eventually admit it to myself that I do like you," but he recently broke up with this other girl who is still hanging out with us...and I know he isn't over her completely. He has already told me that they will never go out again, because he knows that it won't last. He has told me twice already that all we can ever be is friends, and I still ask myself if he is trying to convince himself rather than me. Though this sounds confusing, I would be really grateful if you could help me. - Rose, 14, TX

"Hey, Rose!'" Hey! I definitely think this guy likes you... but I think he's just scared! Scared that it won't work out, scared that the friendship will be no longer, scared he'll lose you. I don't blame him. You're someone he really cares about and he's afraid that he'll hurt you, and hurt himself even more if you to hook up. Give him time. He needs to get over his ex. And make sure you're right there, helping him through the tough time. I'm sure he'll realize soon enough how awesome going out with you can be. If he's a shy guy, you might have to make the first move. Is the Valentines dance coming up? Ask him to it. Are a bunch of friends going to see a movie? Make sure he comes long. But don't push too hard for the relationship. He really may not want to go out, (and that doesn't mean that in a few years he won't want to go out) and you don't want to ruin your friendship. Always remember Boyfriends may come and go, but true friends stay with you 'til the end. Hope this helps!
