I Want Him to Go Away!

I have a problem most girls don't have- I want a guy to go away. He's the wrong guy for me, is noticing me and i want to tell him to back off. How do I do it? - Amirah, 12, USA

"Hey, Amirah!'" The first thing that is important is to tell the truth. Don't wait until he asks you out, then make up a silly excuse for not going. If you don't like him, tell him that. If you can't do it in person, then write him a letter, an email or call him. But beware; you can't avoid him forever.

When you do tell him, write to him or call him. Make sure you give reasons why you don't like him or feel the same way. If you don't want to be involved in a relationship, then tell him! If you don't feel the same way: Tell him. Whatever the reason, make sure he knows it.

Don't just say "I hate you and don't want to know you. Stay away from me!" Instead, say: "I am really sorry... but I can't go out with you and I would like it if we could be friends and if you could stop hanging around me all the time. Because, I don't feel the same way as you do and I think that you and I don't have anything in common. I understand if you never want to see me again but I would really like to be just friends."

The most important thing to remember is to ALWAYS tell the truth, give reasons why you don't feel the same way and give him time to come and talk to you when he is ready. You never know; you might find out he didn't really like you at all.

Good Luck!
