Money Matters Presents

Vacation Is Over. Any Money-Making Ideas for School Daze?

Thanks to Miranda, 11 for asking the question, and our "Money Matters" editor, Anna, 11 of Illinois for answering it.

The Problem

Dear Money Matters:
I have a very small business and I made about $39.00 over vacation but now I don't have time to work with school, so I don't have as much money. Is there anything I can do during school months to make money that won't take too much time away from school stuff?

The Solution

Hey, Miranda!
Congrats on your business! It's good to start early when you are young. If your business is making/selling things and you have any left over, you could possibly sell them at school. Also, to make sure your old customers are there when you do have time again, you should give out fliers (not in mailboxes, its illegal unless delivered by U.S. mail) saying now that school is here, you must cut back on jobs but you'll see them in the summer!

At school you could sell personalized stationary made on your computer. It wouldn't take very long to put together and you could put on the kid's name, address, a design they like, etc. You can have garage sales on the weekends to make money or do chores for neighbors only on the weekends (after you do your homework).

I hope these suggestions help. Good luck!

Anna, 11 of Illinois
