He's Being Abusive to My Friend!

My best friend's boyfriend is always being horrible to her- he grabs her leg and pulls it up to his chin, making her fall over. He is always trying to kiss her and then he hits her. Plus she's always miserable and crying about him being mean to her and it hurts me to see her like that. Help! - Ariel, 11, Illinois

"Hey, Ariel!" One of my friends was in a similar situation as your friend. Her so-called boyfriend too was horrible to her. I had a hard time see her be miserable and taking things he said and done literally. He used to say "I love you!" and then hit her. She was miserable.

Your friend's boyfriend isn't worth keeping if it's making your friend depressed; as well as abusive. He has no right to grab her and make her fall down. Or force her to kiss him then hit her. He isn't very nice to be doing this.

Here are several ideas about this situation:

1. Grabs her leg and pull it up to his chin = harassment

2. Hits her = abuse

3. Your friend being miserable and crying = could lead to depression.


Here are a few things in which I suggest to do:

A - Talk to your friend and tell her you really think she should drop this guy because he's hurting her physically and emotionally.

B - Encourage your friend to tell an adult. IF she won't...

C - You tell an adult. This guy isn't good new and he shouldn't be with your friend or anyone else if he is treating her like this.


I hope this helps and I pray that your friend drops this guy and tell someone.
