Green tea contains significantly less caffeine than its hot drink brethren. In an 8oz cup of green tea, you’d be looking at around 35mg of caffeine. As a comparison, in a cup of coffee of the same size, you would be taking in up to 173mg if it’s instant, and up to 200mg from a brewed cup. Black tea is a little better than coffee, but it can still contain up to 110mg. While there’s nothing wrong with a little caffeine, over-doing it can lead to headaches, a fast heartbeat and irritability as well as insomnia.
